Description
Salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM; synonym: 2-Hydroxybenzohydroxamic acid N,2-Dihydroxybenzamide) is an inhibitor of the alternative oxidase (AOX). When AOX is blocked by SHAM, electrons are forced through the cytochrome c pathway and through cytochrome IV, allowing observation of the operation of the cytochrome pathway without AOX activity.
