Description
Palmitoylcarnitine is an ester derivative of carnitine (long-chain acylcarnitine) involved in the metabolism of fatty acids. Within the cell, palmitoylcarnitine is transported into the mitochondria to deliver palmitate for fatty acid oxidation and energy production.
Abbreviation: Pal
Carnitine palmitoyltransferase I (CPT1) also known as carnitine acyltransferase I or CAT1 is a mitochondrial enzyme. CPT1 is associated with the outer mitochondrial membrane and mediates the transport of long-chain fatty acids across the membrane by binding them to carnitine.
Application in HRR
- Pal: Palmitoylcarnitine (Palmitoyl-DL-carnitine-HCl, C23H45N04HCl); Sigma P 4509, 100 mg, store at -20 °C; M = 436.1 g·mol-1.
- Preparation of 10 mM stock solution (dissolved in H2O):
- Weigh 8.72 mg of palmitoylcarnitine.
- Dissolve in 2 mL H2O.
- Divide into 0.2 mL portions.
- Store frozen at -20 °C.
- » O2k manual titrations MiPNet09.12 O2k-Titrations
- Titration volume: 8 µL using a 25 µL syringe (2 mL O2k-chamber).
- Final concentration: 0.04 mM.
