Education: 1981: Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic, graduated in biophysics (title "RNDr" in physics); 1981-1986: a postgraduate fellowship at the Department of Bioenergetics, Institute of Physiology, Acad. Sci., under supervision of Josef Houštek, M.D 1986: Ph.D.-degree in Physiology of animals - Ph.D. thesis: "Ion transport and thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue mitochondria". 2001: achieved D.Sc.-degree (doctor scienciarum) in Physiology of animals (Acad.Sciences and Charles University, Prague). DSc. Thesis: „Mitochondrial uncoupling proteins, anion carriers and ion channels.“

Since 1991: Head of the Department, permanent position of researcher in the Institute of Physiology, Prague; February 1991 formed own Department of Membrane transport Biophysics in this Institute, building completely new laboratory for biofluorescence methods and molecular biology up to present. Recently, he is developing the 3D superresolution microscopy, such as 4Pi microscopy and BiplaneFPALM microscopy.

Dr. P.J. is member of four commissions organizing Ph.D. studies in Czech Republic, supervising many Ph.D. students, several have already graduated under his supervision in biochemistry and biophysics, respectively. Memberships in Editorial Boards: member of the editorial board of the Int.J. Biochem.& Cell Biology (London).

Past achievement: Dr. P. J.: h-index 29; till 2010: >3000 citations, published 91 major scientific papers (total impact factor 351.5, i.e. 13.5 per year since 1984, an average IF 3.86 per paper; among which 18 appeared in the Journal of Biological Chemistry (2 in FASEB J., 1 in Aging Cell, 15 in IJBCB, 6 in BBA, 16 in FEBS Lett., 6 in J. Bioenerg. Biomembr., 3 in Eur. J. Bioch., 2 in Am. J. Physiol., etc.). One Czech and PCT patent (EU applied) in photodynamic therapy of tumors.
